Elephant Ivory Facts

We Buy Ivory

IVORY FACTS: It is illegal to import modern era elephant ivory into the United States, however any elephant ivory inside this country may be legally bought or sold without restriction.  There are no laws against the importation of mammoth fossil ivory.  We do not support the poaching of ivory, and we are very concerned about the survival of the elephant, and would never do anything that we feel would endanger the species. It is a practical matter that people must sell ivory to settle estates, divorces, and financial difficulties.

Our background: Art started his ivory collecting during his tour in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam war.  He is an active collector.

When it was legal to import ivory, we had a permit with the Department of Interior, Wildlife Division, to import ivory.  Every six months we would take coins, watches, jewelry, etc and sell them at the huge international Hong Kong Coin Show.  With the monies received we would buy ivory from the cutters and wholesalers there and legally import ivory carvings into the US, huge amounts each trip.  This went on for about 15 years till the ban on importation of ivory was implemented by the US government.  Since then we no longer import except for a modest amount of fossil ivory carvings.  However, we have continued to buy and sell all types of ivory in our Largo Florida store.

If you have ivory for sale, please contact us.  We are very experienced dealers.  We know the ivory market for both old and modern carvings.  We pay fair prices for netsukes, carvings, carved or plain tusks, or whatever you may have.  Questions? Call 888 436-6463 or email  art@belleaircoins.com
